You Can Read the Bible
and Still Not Grow

Reading for the Wrong Reasons

Testing historical accuracy. Hunting for contradictions. Comparing it to other ancient documents. Searching for answers to every question. These are all ways to read the Bible — but none of them produce spiritual growth.

Looking for the Wrong Things

When you come to Scripture looking for data instead of encounter, you walk away informed but unchanged. The Bible wasn't written to satisfy curiosity — it was written to transform you from the inside out.

Faithful but Frustrated

You read consistently. You show up every morning. But nothing changes. The frustration isn't a lack of discipline — it's a lack of direction. Without the right approach, even faithfulness leads to a dead end.

The issue was never how much you read — it was what you were looking for.

When you know what to look for, every passage becomes nourishment. That's the TOFU framework.

What Are You Looking For?

God has packed every page of Scripture with real nutrients for your soul. Come looking for them and growth isn't optional — it's inevitable. The premise of the TOFU process is that every single passage of Scripture contains four nutrients for your soul:

T

Promises to Trust

"What does this verse call me to trust?"

Without trust, reading Scripture is just a religious exercise. But when you trust the God who speaks through the Bible, real change begins immediately. Whatever you find to trust is a promise from God.

O

Commands to Obey

"What is God calling me to do in response?"

Obedience is the immediate turning of your will toward divine truth. When God speaks through Scripture and you respond wholeheartedly, your mind, body, and behavior will soon follow.

F

Sins to Forsake

"What must I release or leave behind?"

Trusting and obeying God's voice naturally leads you to forsake whatever stands in the way — habits, attitudes, or desires that hinder your growth.

U

Truths to Understand

"What wisdom or truth is God revealing?"

God isn't asking for blind obedience. He offers wisdom and understanding so that trust and obedience become a way of life.

The Bible Reading Plan

One of the biggest barriers to consistent Bible reading is simply knowing where to start. The TOFU Journal solves this with a 365-day reading plan built on three parallel lines — like three bus routes that each take you through a different third of the city.

Line 1 Genesis → Job

Understand the foundational history and wisdom that shapes your faith.

Line 2 Psalms → Malachi

Dive deep into worship, prophecy, and the heart of God's people.

Line 3 Matthew → Revelation

See the fulfillment of God's promises through the life of Jesus and the early church.

Reading through the entire Bible in a year sounds daunting — until you see how simple it actually is. Just 3–4 chapters a day across three parallel lines, and every single morning you're drawing from the beginning, middle, and end of Scripture. No marathon reading sessions. No falling behind. Just steady, daily nourishment from the whole counsel of God.

Seven Steps.
Every Morning.
One Encounter.

A simple, structured rhythm that takes you from distraction to presence, from reading to revelation. Each day follows the same sacred pattern.

01

Prayer of Gratitude

Begin by thanking God for one specific thing, and explain why you're thankful. Ground yourself in His goodness before you go further.

02

Pour Out Your Heart

Cast your cares and sorrows on Him. Be honest about what you're feeling and where you need His help, then invite His loving response.

03

Read the Scriptures

Follow the daily reading plan. Choose one, two, or all three Lines — running through Genesis to Job, Psalms to Malachi, and the New Testament.

04

Verse of the Day

Select one verse from your reading that resonates with you and write it down, word for word. This becomes the focus of your encounter.

05

TOFU

Ask: What is God calling me to Trust, Obey, Forsake, and Understand through this verse? Record your answers.

06

Pray the Truth

Turn your insights into a prayer. Ask God to help you trust His promise, obey His Word, forsake sin, and gain understanding.

07

Listen to God

Write down what you sense God saying back to you. This is not prophecy — it's a devotional exercise of hearing His personal voice.

Everything You Need.
Every Single Day.

Structured Daily Entries

Every page walks you through the full TOFU process with structured space for each response. No blank pages. No guesswork. Just open and go.

All 7 Steps on Every Page

Space for Listening

Step 7 invites you to write down what you sense God saying back to you. Intentional room for His personal voice — because the goal isn't just to read, it's to hear.

Frequently Asked

TOFU stands for Trust, Obey, Forsake, Understand — four kinds of responses to God's Word that facilitate spiritual growth. It's what all mature believers do instinctively, and it's often what's missing in the lives of those who long to grow deeper but don't know how.

Most practitioners spend 15–30 minutes each day, depending on depth and which Scripture Lines they follow. The practice is designed to be sustainable and life-giving — not burdensome.

Not at all. The TOFU Journal is designed for anyone — whether you're brand new to Scripture or have been reading it for decades. The framework meets you where you are and guides you into deeper engagement regardless of your starting point.

The Lines are three parallel Scripture reading tracks that run 365 days each: Line 1 covers Genesis through Job, Line 2 covers Psalms through Malachi, and Line 3 covers the New Testament. Read all three to cover the entire Bible in a year (about 3–4 chapters per day), or pick one or two Lines to start. Ideally, choose one OT Line and Line 3 for a daily dose of the New Testament.

It's a Personal Discipleship System. It provides structure like a devotional but space like a journal. It doesn't tell you what to think about a passage. It gives you a framework to hear what God is saying to you, personally, and to write your response.

Yes. While the journal is structured for 365 days, it's not tied to a specific calendar year. You can begin whenever you're ready. Day 1 is the day you start.
